Kelley Cawthorne - Profiles - Patrick H. McCollough

Patrick H. McCollough has been involved in public affairs for more than twenty-five (25) years. In a 2001 survey of legislators, staffers, executive branch officials, journalists and lobbyists published by the respected newsletter Inside Michigan Politics, Mr. McCollough was recognized as one of the top ten (10) most effective individual lobbyists in Michigan.

Mr. McCollough represented parts of Wayne County, Michigan's largest county, as a Democratic member of Michigan State Senate for twelve (12) years. While in the State Senate, Mr. McCollough chaired the Committees on Finance, Municipalities, Public Health and Mental Health Social Services, and Retirement.

He was a Democratic candidate for Michigan Governor in 1978 and was later appointed by President Carter as the Midwest administrator for nuclear power plant licensure and disaster preparedness under the aegis of the Defense Civil Preparedness Agency and later the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

While in the State Senate Mr. McCollough had the distinction of being one-half of the first mother-son team in the history of the Michigan Legislature. Pat's mother Lucille McCollough, a recent inductee to the Michigan Woman's Hall of Fame, served twenty-eight (28) years in the state House of Representatives, several of which overlapped with her son's tenure.

Mr. McCollough specializes in a wide range of legislative and administrative law with emphasis on finance, health care, insurance and regulatory matters. Mr. McCollough received his law degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1970.
